Russia’s Office of Prosecutor General declares Novaya Gazeta Europe ‘undesirable organisation’

Russia’s Office of Prosecutor General has declared Novaya Gazeta Europe an “undesirable organisation”.

The main topics of its publications include fake statements about alleged mass violations of rights and freedoms of Russian citizens, accusations that our country has unleashed an aggressive war in Ukraine and commits war crimes against civilians, as well as oppresses people,” the Prosecutor General’s Office said in a statement.

The statement also notes that Novaya Gazeta Europe publishes materials created by the Anti-Corruption Foundation and the Navalny headquarters that are recognised as “extremist organisations” in Russia as well as reports and articles created by other “undesirable organisations” such as Open Russia, The Insider, Bellingcat, and others.

Novaya Gazeta Europe is a project by former journalists from Novaya Gazeta, which had its licence revoked by Russian authorities earlier. Novaya Gazeta Europe is an independent project, both legally and factually. Novaya Gazeta Editor-in-Chief and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dmitry Muratov has no connection to the European project.
